What size wheels and tires on the 66?

I want to lower the truck a bit........and put some Torque thrust (grey center) wheels on it. I also want to try to run the same size all the way around. What size can I get under there with no problems.....bigger than 15's of course.

17's x ?
18's x ?
20's?????

what size tires?

I am also hunting a good complete working floor shift steering column.

the front is 225/55/17 (26"dia.), and before the hoosiers i believe in the rear i had(what is in the picture) is 255/50/172(26.5" dia). this is when the truck had atleast a 4/6 drop. if you do not plan on lowering it , you might want to go with more sidewall

I think 18's would look killer. This is Billydonn's truck...not sure of the wheel tire combo, but I emailed him on it-

Re: What size wheels and tires on the 66?

I have 255/55's in the front and 285/50's in the rear. I want to drop my truck a LITTLE, I'll probably do that next year. I wanted TONS of meat on my tires and I did the semi-staggered look even though all of 4 of my 18" Foose Nitrous are 9" wide. I also have 1.5" spacers in the rear and 1" spacers in the front. Here are a couple pics:

Re: What size wheels and tires on the 66?

If you search for American Racing Wheels, numerous sites come up where you can buy them.Like this one http://www.wheelsforless.com/vintage_wheels.htm
The best place to look at the wheels is http://www.americanracing.com/browse_ar.asp

I just noticed you have 6 lugs,I think the only Torque thrust wheels in that pattern have 6 spokes.

Re: What size wheels and tires on the 66?

My truck is 5 lug. American Racing does make a 6 lug version. I'm not sure of the model name and number though.

Yeah, a lot of the 67-72 guys have that issue, you can make it fit, it is just a PITA.

Re: What size wheels and tires on the 66?

that is one of the problems with trying to use newer stock wheels also, the center bore is too small and won't fit over the rotor hub or the raised area on the axles(can't remember the correct term.)
I'm not sure what size center bore is needed, I'll try to measure later
