here are my 2 64's that i'm gonna combine hopefully into 1. (with all of ya'lls help).the blue one is a 3/4 ton frame that's been shortened. i'm not real fine of the frame job so thats why I wanted the grey one. i have a 283 i think in the blue truck and a 700r4 in my laundry room. the grey frame is great and the cab appears better. i hope to use some pieces of both, and alot of aftermarket parts. ya'll let me know what you think. i got the grey one for $400 and lost my butt on a trade for the blue one. (hopefully i won't be so stupid next time) i wanna swap in the engine and tranny as soon as possible so i can enjoy driving it some. it ain't no fun just sitting there. i wood like to redo a wood bed cheaply until i can get a swb fleetside bed.

planning on taking off the wood bed and using rust bullet all over the frame. start at the back and work my way up front before i install the engine. ya'll have any better ideas?

I didn't notice before, but you scored with that factory fleet rear bumper on the $400 truck!

with the 2 you definatly have enough to build a good truck now , all you need is a box.

I don't think that is a 283 though. wrong heads, wrong alternator bracket, looks like a newer swap. there should be a number behind the drivers side head that you can run and see what it is

what do you think the engine is then? i cant get to the back of the block to find the numbers. nothing else the guy told me about the truck is correct so i won't be surprised if i find out it's something else. as long as it turns out to be a chevy v8 i should be o.k. with it. i dont know if ya'll read my other post but, how do i know where to cut the hole for a floor shifter in the grey truck. i have a 700r4 in my laundry room that i wanna put in. i also wanna use one of them tall shifters (gennie or lokar)how tall is enough? i see them in all different lengths.

I think those shifters have options for where you want to place them on the tranny, I would get the tranny in first , and then see where the shifter could be located, and then cut he hole.
with an automatic you can use a shift cable as well, maybe they have a floor mount shifter, then all you need to do is drill a hole for the cable.

I see that the engine dipstick is on the passenger side, which indicates a 1980 and newer engine. There is also a letter code stamped on a pad on the block in front of the passenger head. It can be a little hard to see with the alternator in the way

You'll want to get as much of the loose rust, dirt and grease off as possible. One way to do that is with a cup style knotted wire brush on a 4 1/2" grinder. After it is as clean as you can get it, wipe it all down with something like lacquer thinner or a specific wax and grease remover. Then apply the Rust Bullet. You'll want to be sure that the temperature is warm enough and long enough for the Rust Bullet to cure thouroughly.

Amazingly your doing the same as I, but I went with POR15.

To remove the stuff I hit the truck frame with a power washer to get rid of all the really loose chunky stuff then I hit it with one of these wheels. Just screwed right on to my 4-inch grinder.


After that I hit everywhere I couldn't hit with that with wire brush followed by a foam block that was covered with sand paper.


I blew the entire surface with air to remove the film then hand washed with a damn towl. Well I should say many damp towls.

I'd guess the most important part like mentioned is having a clean as possible surface and most importantly no oil or grease.
