need some help here guys

With winter rearing it's ugly head at us, I need to get our 58 GMC project on the move and into my garage. Only problem is, I lost the only key to the ignition. The column came from a 79 Nova. How do I get this damn thing started without a key? I already tried the screwdriver trick and couldn't get it to go. Anyone know how to crack the column and remove the entire switch so I can install a new one with a different key??
