Post I'm unstable

I'm using my 72 LWB to lug a camper around this summer, and it tends to lean in the turns. I have helper springs installed. Will stabilizers help enough to make it worth going through the add-on? Should I do front only, or rear only or both?

You mite want to look into some new MONROE shocks also,and that front staberliser,I know I killed that word.lol

You can get heavy or light stablizers out of a junkyard. I had one of those new campers with the Queen bed up top that the hood would hit when you opened it. It was scary as heck to drive. I made Joey Chitwood look like a piker as swear that SOB was on two wheels about half the time. I put a 1-ton stablizer on it and that really helped.

(For you younger folks, Joey Chitwood was a stunt driver that made the county fair circut for years and he would drive one side of his car up a ramp and get it on two wheels and drive it on two wheels all over the place)

The other thing I noticed, which sounds backwards, but mine did better in the wind when the water tank was full. The greater weight helped fight the wind from pushing it around. I was thinking about making a step to put in my trailer receiver that was made out of railroad track to add some more weight down low. (that would be cool in the snow too) but I bought a new truck with duals instead.

I also though about some sandbags for weight.

One other thing to think about is the offset to center on the wheel you are running. I have about 6 sets of wheels and the centers vary a lot. I bet close to 3 inches. Get the widest ones you can and put a pretty high load tire with good pressure.

I just put on the new Monroes. I think I will go with the front stabilizer and see how it does. BIG ORANGE, thanks for your help on the other question, too. C-ya

You can put air bags inside the rear and front spings to increase spring rate. Air Products sell them

Hey, Joey Chitwood didn't just do the small county fair stuff, he hit the big time. I remember seeing him at the Alabama STATE Fair, doing his two wheel antics on the front stretch at BIR (Birmingham International Raceway). Gosh, that had to have been in the early 70's. Good memories.
