6" Lift or 8" Lift Suspension? HELP!

I need some help deciding on a 6" lift or an 8" lift for my 72' Pickup...

My thought is running 38" tires on 18" wheels with a 8" lift. My other thought is running 35" Tires on 18" wheels with a 6" lift.

If you have any pictures of 6" lift truck or 8" lift trucks please send them!

Also, if you have any suggestions on lift kits that offer decent ride qualities, I'm not planning on four wheeling this truck. Pavement Princess!

I have a 72' Short bed fleet side truck...

Thank you..

There's a 4 wheel drive section of the Board, you might have better luck there.

If you're not going to 4 wheel it, what's the point? Just to look pretty bouncing down the highway at 6 MPG?

Here is my 72. I am running a 6" lift with BFG All Terrains Lt315/75R/16. It's a rigid ride, but I still love the sh_t out of it. Good luck and have fun with your truck.

Re: 6" Lift or 8" Lift Suspension? HELP!

It all depends upon what you are willing to spend. Most of the older trucks are geared low enough to be functional as a "pavement princess" if you stick with the advertised 35" tire range. I say "range" because most of them are not even close to a true 35". Most are really only about 33" tall on a 10" wide wheel.
If you jump up a few more inches and go with a taller tire, you are going to run into gearing issues.....especially with an automatic. You will turn it into a sled that is literally a drag to drive.

Lift and tires are expensive enough, but when you are looking at having to swap gears too, it gets out of control quickly.

Re: 6" Lift or 8" Lift Suspension? HELP!

Okay...Here is my thought, and you can't tell me this truck doesn't look awesome with these wheels and tires!

Thank you for your feed back everyone...

The axles I am using are 14 SF rear axles, and a 10 bolt 8 lug front, 4:10 gears, and cross over steering...

What is your feeling of 4:10 with 38" Tires?

Re: 6" Lift or 8" Lift Suspension? HELP!

What's your transmission? Search on google for gear ratio calculator. I big rims on this style 4x4 truck look bad. How much are you looking to spend on rims, tires and lift? If you search you will find answers to most of your questions.
Good luck

Re: 6" Lift or 8" Lift Suspension? HELP!

ok you asked for it... google mall crawler. for a show queen, I would have stayed close to stock height with maybe some 31x12x15 as it fits the trucks very well at or near stock height. If your going to donk your old chevy... prepare to be clowned...

This message is for Eturnit3...

Thank you for your suggestion, which is what I am looking for... However, the only clown I have ever come across on this site so far is you...

Speaking for everyone who belongs to this site, I can confidently say that not one truck is mirrored to another. If that were the case, we as human beings would not be practicing our God given gifts of creativity!

Do you know what kind of society is forced to follow specific guidelines, or are otherwise punished? Communist!

If you’re a Communist Clown, take your ideas to another country. We American's believe in our freedom of Choice...

With Best Regards,
OYMC

OK mr 24 posts, you asked for feedback in your post before mine. If you wernt prepared for an honest answer, you shouldnt have asked.
As far as I know, serving 6 yrs in the united states marines makes me an American... As for the pissing contest you are trying to start, i wont be participating. I merely expressed my dislike for your ideas, that has nothing to do with communism so, good day to you!!

Re: 6" Lift or 8" Lift Suspension? HELP!

Eturnit3 has a point, 18 inch wheels are useless for actual 'wheeling, and my opinion is they look like sh!t, but because theyre useless for actual offroading, we would call your truck a mall crawler, because theyre for looks only. 98% of offroading guys will make fun of you for having a mall crawler which was why he called you a clown
if you'd like better feedback on this try pirate4x4

Re: 6" Lift or 8" Lift Suspension? HELP!

I think it will look good with 18s and 38s. 35s would have been to short of a tire IMO for 18s. It would get boring if every truck had 15x8 rallys and 35x12.5 BFG M/t's

I remember when everyone said 18s and 20s looked like **** on 2wds. If you don't plan on wheeling it. Build a mall truck, who cares. As long as you think it looks good.

Re: 6" Lift or 8" Lift Suspension? HELP!

Sorry but I agree with the comments on the larger rims, to me they just look like something that belongs on a lowrider or a mall cruiser.

I have a 70 LWB running 36s. Not much help since my body is sitting on a later model frame with a 2" body lift, no clearance issues.....on or offroad.

Re: 6" Lift or 8" Lift Suspension? HELP!

i think i know who built that truck if under the hood everythings chrome and shiny, and its from moterey ca. Those are 20x10 welds from what they look like with 36x12.50-13.50s with a 6in suspension and 1 in body. I could be wrong they maybe 18s. And in person i remember that the wheels looked tooo big, but if you want I would get a 6in lift and no tires have it put on and then decide on what wheels/tires you want and then and a body if you feel its needed for the look.

DIsregard what i said about the lift because you got 1 but still wait a little on the wheels/tires because many people run into it and end up with the wrong style for them. but those aren't 38s unless those are 22s because the tires are small compared to wheels.
