It's missing from our 72 blazer. The bolts are still in the floor but all the bracketry is gone. I would like to put the spare where it belongs but can't seem to find anyone that carries the factory mount setup.

Any ideas or leads would be great, thanks.

It's very easy to build one that looks like the factory oem spare mount. I have a bunch of photos of oem mounts if you need them. I was going to make one, but decided to use a trailer hitch mount in the time being instead.

I could construct one using measurements from the 4 original mounting locations. I would just rather have an oem setup.

I'm guessing there are no aftermarket vendors that sell this setup for a blazer?? I see the undermount systems all the time for pickup trucks.

You can't put an undermount on a blazer because of the gas tank. Blazers had two options – 1) in the bed behind either the driver's seat or the rear seat or 2) swing away exterior. I am not sure if any of the swing aways were factory but I believe they could be dealer installed as well as aftermarket.

There have been some great alternatives created here on the board. Check out BobbyK's custom rear bumper with heavy duty swing away rack.

Or some of these -

If your looking for stock replacements, you're going to have to find one used. If you become a subscribing member as VT suggested, you can make a "wanted to buy" post. Nothing is being offered aftermarket to my knowledge.

Haha, I didn't mean that the pickup under bed mount would fit a blazer,,,,I was just commenting that the pickup under bed mounts are reproduced everywhere,,,,yet I can't seem to find the blazer in-cab mount setup reproduced.

Our blazer had the swing out tire mount outside,,,,I'm just not a fan of those so I took the whole setup off. Really detracts from the looks, not to mention I've had them on jeeps and got tired of opening the tire mount to access the bed all the time. Then there is the whole theft issue, constant sun on the tire requires a cover around here in AZ to prevent dry rot,,a source for rattles,,,yada yada yada. Sorry to the guys that like them, just not for me.

Anyway,,,just much easier and less headache to keep it mounted inside for us.

I did like that picture of the homemade inside mount. I'll keep looking but if all else fails I'll have to make one.

I'm still puzzled that these things aren't out on the market somewhere.

Blasted and painted it today. Ready to install. Just have to rip the rest of the interior apart and start the new carpet and seat covers now. Woohoo.

I could but I'm sure you guys have seen that stuff before. I'm just doing a complete interior rehab. New houndstooth seat covers from Yellowblazer on this site, new carpet kit, new dash pad etc.....all the door panels and rear panels are perfect. I may respray the console though.
The truck is original and unrestored with 74,000 miles. Just the interior shows wear and tear.
Pretty boring for a new build post I would guess

I'm doing an LQ4/4L80E swap as well. But I would assume that's been done on here already as well

Mine was originally that highlander stuff in the first pic. Looks like a flanel shirt,,,haha. Chris could have gotten that material for me, it would have only added about another $200 to the price of the seat covers. But I couldn't see spending another $200 for material that I never thought looked that great in the first place

So I went with houndstooth material. It's still orange, and still fits the theme of the truck to an extent, and I'm happy with that.

Should make it really pop out when it's done.

I have seen a 2wd build with a lQ9/4l80E, but not a 4x4 Blazer. I have plans to go with an LQ4/4l65E with my factory np205 transfer case but I haven't found the right donor drivetrain yet. If/when you do this swap you will BE REQUIRED BY LAW to show it in a build thread.

Hmm, I would have thought someone has done the 4x4 swap by now. It's relatively easy. Advance Adapters makes the necessary adapter for the 4L80E to bolt to the old NP205 case. I already have that in my possession.

The LQ4/4L80E came out of a 4x4 truck (2002 I believe) and Howell Management systems made the custom wire harness for the electronics and supplied the computer. So it's literally a plug and play setup.

I'm fabbing my own motor mounts. Using the stock radiator and bending some tube to hook radiator hoses up, since LS motor have both inlet and outlet on the passenger side, I have to run one hose over to the driver side. Since the LQ4's out of the newer trucks use a stock type clutch fan it works perfectly with the stock shroud and makes the drop in that much easer. No electric fans to screw with and wire up.
Needs a custom air intake fabbed up and a few minor things like the drive by wire ordeal, that's about it.

I can snap pics of the process, it's really not that bad.

I like how you nonchalantly throw a paint booth in the corner. That is awesome. I'm glad the tire carrier worked out for you. It sounds like your blazer is pretty well optioned. Do you have a pic of the SPID, label on the inside of the glovebox??
