85 Drag/Street truck build

I am going to start gathering parts for my 85 build and it will lean more towards the track than the street but I still want to drive it on the street. I need opinions on fiberglass parts. I plan on running a fiberglass hood and possibly fenders on the front. I am still going to have bumpers front and rear (for street looks). Are fiberglass fenders durable enough for the street?

I suppose it depends on the source of the part. There are some places who do ultra-light (and ultra thin) panels. Others do more of a "direct replacement" heavier duty panel.

Re: 85 Drag/Street truck build

I have a fiberglass hood on my 82 C10. I love how light it is. Please do yourself a favor and make sure it's bolted down good. If you're gonna get the pin-on hood, use quality dzus fasteners or get a nice hood pin kit. I used Jegs rivets with my dzus fasteners and they let go at the end of my last run. Luckily the hood landed with minimal damage. Another racer advised me to use small screws with nyloc nuts to secure the dzus brackets in the fenders. Good luck with your project.

Re: 85 Drag/Street truck build

I plan to swap in a LQ4 with forged rods, pistons, ported 317s and a frount mount GT4788 88mm Turbo backed by either a built th400 or 4l80e. I want a low 11 high 10 sec Truck that I can drive on the street. I am also swapping the rear suspension to a trailing arm suspension.
