Smile Post your longbed performance trucks !

POST PICTURES PLEASE! I currently have a longbed and i want to see if there is many other longbeds that run strong and fast? I have mostly seen shortbeds, is that because of the weight factor or other things too?

more length, aerodynamics, driveshafts, chassis twist, their are a whole bunch of factors that contribute to this

Thanks Shaun. Yeah, I think so too.
I will say that the jury is still out on which style scoop best helps with performance, though. I'm beginning to think that the ugly catfish scoop actually worked better than the cowl. I'm not ready to dump the cowl yet, though.

dbmx66: yeah, there's a lot of crap stacked up there. I'm always trying things, to see what the engine likes and doesn't like. That carb/spacer combo is gone now and replaced by a 4150 Holley HP 1000 and a 1" wooden spacer.

R.N.M.: I'm glad to see the younger guys getting into these older trucks! In the pic, I'm guessing that you're referring to the distributor, and if so, it is an MSD unit, although it's basically a dummy distributor, as I use a crank trigger on this engine. If you're interested in learning more about ignition systems, you may want to check out MSD's website and cruise around thru it. I'd be glad to explain more in detail, but I'm at work right now and I could see this getting pretty long-winded!! Keep up with this site and a few others and read everything you can get your hands on concerning engines. Make a plan for the direction you want to go with your truck and stay with it.

Dang nice and clean truck. The launch is awesome. I was thinking the same thing about scoop vs cowl also. Do you think a aluminum plate box with foam sealed would help.

You've got a nice looking truck as well!! Good choice on the wheels! To be honest, I've been thinking about building some sort of ram air setup which would totally isolate the incoming air from the effects of the cowl scoop. I haven't settled on an airbox design yet, though, because of the close quarters I have to work with, with the air cleaner being so close to the firewall. But this is probably the route that I'll end up going.
I've heard some good things about some guys setups that are using airpans. If you'll look back a page or 2, Marv posted some pics of his '66 after he put that tunnel-rammed 434 in his and he built a neat-looking airpan using plexiglass. His turned out nice, IMO.

Thanks. Its a work is progress. Ever year I make a goal for it. Not to much at one time so the pocket book can recover. I have the same pro Dominator that Marv is running. I have some casting scale cleaned up on it. I'm looking at a pair 650's or 750's for next year.
Oh yes I remember, that's a nice piece he built.
A guy at the track has a single 3" ram air on a 72 c-10 he swears he gained a full .10th out of it.
I hear ya about the air cleaner being way to close to the fire wall. I helped a 2nd father type put a 63 short box together and I recall it was tight and minimal options.

The front has mcgaughy's 2 1/2" drop spindle w/ 1" drop spring (need to buy Super's Moroso tricks) also CCP's tubular upper and lower control arms. Rancho RS9000

The rear has early classics 6" drop spring with a 3/4" aluminum block. Rancho RS9000
I would love to go to coil overs in rear.
