...so what do you all think?? Good deal?

...it comes w/ a 2spd powerglide. I'm uncertain if the 4:11 gears are beneficial as a DD since it's a 4 barrel 327 or 350 motor. Also, it comes with rear coil springs. Is this a good deal for a DD truck?? Even to haul stuff?

Re: ...so what do you all think?? Good deal?

How much do you want AC, power brakes? Do you plan on driving it every day or occasionally? Most of it depends on what your looking for and the exact condition its in. Unfortunately the always small craigslist photos make it require a closer look.

That's kind of pricey for what it is. The bed looks trashed. 4:11 gears can be marginal at freeway speeds, I have 4:10 gears and turn about 3000 rpm at 65 mph. If you're patient you can find a better deal. It is a shortbed though which is desirable.

Re: ...so what do you all think?? Good deal?

Here's some more pics of it...

It's probably not power brakes; I believe he said it's drums front and rear brakes. AC or a heater is not my concern since most of these trucks don't come with one or are disconnected. So..4:11 gears isn't good for hwy use???? Especially on a 2spd? Explain please?

Do you have a 68?? Does it come with 2spd powerglide stock?? I don't undertand what you mean bout the gears being marginal???? FYI it's a 4barrel as well. Maybe he can work on the price??? These shortbeds have been advertised for $4k+ in almost the same condition, so I dunno where you find your deals from especially a shortbed and a 68???

Re: ...so what do you all think?? Good deal?

all I can say is in cali it was impossible almost for me to find a swb fleet side in decent condition at a decent price. 95% of them in cali are long beds for sale. and I mean it took me almost 2 years of searching. so maybe this is a good price unless your willing to wait and just search around more.

Re: ...so what do you all think?? Good deal?

If you really want a SWB, it may not be a bad price.

After looking in Oregon for 3 months, I only found 3 SWB trucks that weren't restored already for 8K+. One was 1K with no engine/trans, stripped cab and a leaf spring rearend that had been cobbled into it. Another for $1400 was rusted throughout and had a blown trans. My favorite was a 67 that needed body and paint work for 10K. Thinking it was a misprint, I called and found out that it was really 10K.

I bought a LWB.

nowadays i'd crawl under any shortbed to see if it was a factory frame not a hacked up longbed abortion// looks like it is way overpriced for what it is,but guys just get all excited about cheap rattlecan primer jobs nowadays

Re: ...so what do you all think?? Good deal?

4:11 gears are for pulling/towing. Thats what Sinister was saying about them being marginal (if I can put words in his mouth!!) You can pull a house down but you're screaming the rpms on the highway. It's not the powerglide on it's own, any non-overdrive trans will have the same problem, b/c the high gear is 1:1. You could swap a 700R4 into this relatively easily, the 4th (od) gear will knock your revs down on the highway, and improve your mileage...I'm afraid to know what gas is in Cali now!! You could also swap out the diff. to somewhere around 3.08 if you just want to cruise, or around 3.55 if you want a good balance between cruising and hauling. With the 3.55s, I'd still look at the 700R4. My .02

We think exactly alike on this one.
My guess is that he bought it off someone for 1000 or so drove it home and scuffed it and threw on a fresh rattle can spray job as "value added" and threw it on craigslist to try and double or triple his money. I may be wrong but fresh primer on a truck for sale that is still all beat to hell turns me off.
I'd find it a lot more interesting with worn out but original paint on it rather than the primer. Not for the "patina" but worn out original paint doesn't hide anything.

The truck needs a new left bed side which is right at 650 in a repo I think.
Also it has a 67 front clip on it or at least 67 fenders. Not terrible but that means that it may have been wrecked at one time.
No power brakes, no power steering and right at 10 mpg with that engine, trans and rear end combo if the moon is in the right position in the sky.

If you want it show up with 25 $100 bills in your hand and make a cash in the hand offer. He can say no and be whiny or the cash greenies will seal the deal. Even at that I'd watch it for a week or two and let him sit on it before making the offer. He won't come down the first week.

Lots of good advice. To me the price looks a tad high. I would also want to inspect it before I made a commitment. Hidden rust can be a real killer. Frame rust, windshield frame rust etc. can be a real deal breaker. Best of luck.

Good point C/10 King. A PG with 4:11 are not a good combo for MPG...than again out trucks were not built for MPG.

Re: ...so what do you all think?? Good deal?

Looks too high for me. The bed looks white and the firewall looks orange, make sure the frame isn't chopped.
Too many damaged body parts, I don't think it's worth $3,500. I say $1,500. This one looks like it could nickle, dime, and dollar you to death.

I'm still trying to figure out why the passenger door handle is shaved and the driver's side isn't. Too high in price for me; just my .02...

Re: ...so what do you all think?? Good deal?

...he had told me @ one point it was a short frame utility vehicle for CSU Dominguez Hills. And that the previous owner had taken out the utility bed and slapped on the fleetside shortbed. He had purchased it from Bakersfield and drove it to Corona (3-4 hour drive). He is unsure if it's a 327 or 350 motor, but I dunno how he knows it's a 4:11 gear unless he did the work himself. The shaved door and 67 fenders are questionable, maybe it was rusted out and he or whomever found a almost rust free fender? He does have the original wheel wells and took it out so he can easily work on the truck. I'm thinking of offering him $3300 or even $3000 cash. This truck will not be driven daily, but more of hauling purposes (furniture, boxes, recyclables, parts, etc). My concern really is the rust, and if the 2spd powerglide combo with 4:11 gears will prove harmful to the 327 or 350 motor, esp. on hwy use (50 mile drives, etc).

IMHO...if you're using the truck to haul, why not score a lwb for super cheap. From what I've seen you can get a really nice one for 3K....about 20X nicer than the SWB you're looking for.

Re: ...so what do you all think?? Good deal?

And yes, the 411 gears with the powerglide will be horrible for gas mileage and on the highway. The rpm's will depend on the tire height somewhat but judging by the pics the tires are slightly shorter than stock which will only increase the rpm's...

I need it to fit and be parked in my garage, plus later on, there's more value for a shortbed fleetside. I'm not trying to park it outside to rust some more... Also, I hate parking longbeds, esp. parallel parking it on the side street.

I live here in Corona. That truck has been on C/L for a while now. That alone tells me the truck is not worth 3500. If it was, myself or someone else would have grabbed it by now. If you want a work truck, I'd get a LWB in better shape. They do fit in a garage, haul more, and drive smoother. SWB is not going to make this truck any more valuable when you go to sell it...it's still a beat work truck.

I'd pass, but just my opinion. If you are dead set on a SWB, have at it.

I know it's been up for a couple months. I just sold my 69 SWB for the same amount I had purchased for, but the only draw back was it was rusted out in the cab and the lifter was worn. For this one, it's good and running (I hope) and maybe he can negotiate on the price. I'd be set for $3000, but even less would be great!
