1973 K20 Superwinch Hubs For Dana 44

Hello, all. I have a bit of confusion over what part number I need. I have a 1973 K20 pickup with the Dana 44 front end. In searching the online 4X4 sites and even the Superwinch website, they list the 3/4 internal mount ones as part number 400518, but for years '77-'87 and up.

They list the same part number for 1/2 ton '69-'87 but no mention of fitment for a 1973 3/4 pickup. I called Superwinch but was kept on hold forever.

I'm assuming the 1973 Dana 44 (all original) uses the internal mount hub, correct? Thanks in advance for any help.

If you have the stock 73 axle and the wheel hubs have not been changed out for some reason then yes you should have external drive hubs. Thats why Superwinch doesnt show anything back that far..the only company I know of that still make a lockout for the external hubs is Warn #9072

Okay, I believe I have my answer. I hadn't yet removed them, and the larger part of the lockout looked like it was part of the wheel hub itself, so it was making me think I had internal hubs, but I do believe these are external mount, correct?

Yes they are external hubs. What parts are you looking for?? Some stuff is still available. Also Ford used the same exact thing, just with a red knob....

I'm looking for the whole lockout hub assembly. I believe they are Superwinch part number 400517. I'm a little concerned because I'm going to use the original dog dish hubcaps and fear the smaller size of the hub is going to look a little goofy with the hubcap on. Just aesthetics, sure, but I'd like something that looks stock, and I think the outer part of the Superwinch external mount hub is smaller than the internal mount hub, therefore it will look too small in the hole for the hubcap, if that makes any sense.

Here is what I mean:

What is wrong with the stock hubs?? I'd rather run them than the aftermarket. They aren't nearly as strong, and don't look nearly as good.

Well, from what I could tell, they look pretty nice with the exception of one of the plastic dials. It is broken, but the inner pin is still there. I believe they use a metal(?) gasket between the outer case and the hub part that is missing, too. I did some research and I found these...

I wouldn't have a problem with the "Ford" script. On the contrary, I think it would look pretty cool.

For some reason, the site is having a hard time uploading pictures.

By the way, has anyone rebuilt these? Like I said, everything looks good with the exception of the broken plastic dial.

I had a set of dials made out of aluminum. guy on evilbay was making them. I haven't really checked, but don't think he is making them anymore. It was Dunn's Machining, maybe search for the name.

Thanks so much, I'll have a look. Those at $12 from Dennis Carpenter appear to fit the bill. This truck will basically be an around-town work truck for me, so it won't be doing any serious offroading.
