...longbed steel trim altered to fit a short bed wood trim?

...just out of curiosity. Can a long bed steel support for the wooden bed be used on a short bed w/ some cutting on both sides? If so, has anyone does this and any how to's with pics?? I see a lot of long beds at the junkyard and figured this may be a great cost effective alternative. Anyone?

...the ones you buy in stainless steel w/ hole stamped or just steel to hold the wood floor in place. LBC = Long Beach City.

Re: ...longbed steel trim altered to fit a short bed wood trim?

The cross sills are interchangeable, they are the same width whether they come from a LWB bed or a SWB bed. There IS a difference in them however between steel floor and wood floor beds.

If you are talking about the steel strips that separate the wood planks on a floor, I see no reason why they could not be cut down. Personally, I have never run across any of those in a junkyard that I would consider using.

If I am understanding correctly, you are talking about the trim that is retaining the wood floor on top ? Not the cross sills underneath ? Just as mentioned by LeddZepp, those are usually in crappy shape and I would buy them specific to a short bed or long bed steel floor wood floor... but thats just me
