What's this truck worth? opinions, let's hear them.

I've been reading alot of what's it worth and should I buy threads here lately and it has me wondering what all of your guys opinions are on values. I'm going to use a truck I currently have for sale as the example of condition and options(flame suit on).

Please give a value for all (4) of the combinations and the cut dash factor.

1) How much would you pay for this exact truck and options?
2) How much would you pay for this truck if it was a factory short fleet with the same options and in the same condition?
3) How much would you pay for this truck as a correctly cut down lwb to swb frame(step cut w/fish plate) with a new repo fleet bed (un-painted)?
4) How much would you pay for this exact truck with a swaped swb frame and new repo fleet bed (un-painted)?
5) How much woud you add to the price if the dash and doors were uncut?

This is a loaded up 1972 Chevy C10 long fleet. Runs and drives. Motor is strong and trans shifts good but trans does need front seal replaced(leaky). Currently has a carter 600 cfm carb in place of the long gone q-jet. Some light surface rust on the roof. Orginal step bumper with the orginal Austin, Tx delear stamped into it. Here are my guesses on what I would be willing to pay:

1. 2500-2700 as it is in its unrestored condition
2.4500-5200 if it was an unrestored Short Fleet
3.I personally wouldn't be interested in a cut truck so I won't venture a price
4. Again I wouldn't be interested if the frame vin portion didn't match the truck vin and the SPID wheel base didn't match.
5. 500
My guesses are only representative of what I would pay based on what I would want to do with the truck which would be a complete stock restoration. I don't do my own body and paint work, so I'd be looking at 15000 (figuring up to 10000 for paint and body work) plus the cost of the truck with me doing everything else to retsore.

3. I think if you cut the frame it is for your own preference about how the truck looks, it doesnt add much value. Im probably wrong, just my opinion.
4. I agree that its a little funny to me having the frame not match the spid.

I'll admit I dont know much about #3 and #4, the whole idea just makes me a little nervous. I honestly would just keep looking for a shortbed. If I ever cut a frame it would be on a truck that I planned to keep forever, therefore the actual value in the market is irrelevant.

1. Id have to look around the truck but as it is from what he says I'd say 1500 give or take.
2. I'm not gidy for short beds but do like them and same as above I'd do 2000 give or take.
3. If that's all there was done to it 2500 or maybe a little higher but if rest of the rust on cab would be fixed PROPERLY and at least some of the frame cleaned up I'd easily do 3 to 4000.
4. Can't really say unless you you say if you did anything else to it.
5. Maybe only a couple hundred.
Now these are all just rough estimates and if you said exactly what you did I think wed be able to better price it. Hope this helps though.

Thanks for the response guys.

So from the responses so far. No one want's to touch a cut down or swapped frame truck. I know that the cut frame is going to scare off some people no matter what, but wasn't sure on the swapped frame. I do understand that it could cause title issues depending on the state.

Any one else have an opinion? Let hear them.

I personally don't think a cut frame is necessarily bad.If I were buying it to build for me I would look at the quality of work rather than the fact it was cut.If the frame were swapped I would want to know that I could legaly title what I had in the state I wanted to register it in.After that,I would think the "GOOD" title would be transferable.I would drop value 500-700 for a salvage title in that case.

I think the replies so far tell me what I was looking for. I'd certinally like to find a driver Big block shorty for a resonable price $3-5k, but I sure haven't come across any myself.

If I do end up keeping this truck eventually I'll locate a clean short fleet roller or base model truck and then swap all the desireable options from this truck over to it. Easier for me and it shouldn't be hard to resale if the need arises. No point in dumping cash in a cut or swapped frame truck if I'm not going to be able to sell it.

Thats a $1,500.00 truck all day long. I cut my truck & made it a short bed and I love it! value will never a problem I'll never sell it. (When I was looking for a shorty starter truck they were mostly junk and very pricey) cheers, Pat

If you have pictures of how the cut was done that document that it was done professionally, I think it would be worth more than as a long bed. Since you are aren't planning on sticking with the SPID you're not going to get major bucks anyway.

That Longhorn sticker probably hurts the value as much as anything.

lol. yeah. There wasn't any fuel filter anywhere either... These were the pics the PO sent me. I've been cleaning up the truck and fixing some little things.

lol. yeah the stickers are long gone. Not looking for major bucks. Just trying to see what the perceived value of things are. I've got no issue with cutting a frame down. It's just that I don't seem to keep vehicles very long and I'm always concerned about resale. I'd rather find a decent 72 swb and swap everthing over from this one or maybe I'll luck out an find a real big block swb truck like you.

If you are concerned with resale, stick with a SWB truck (4wd or 2wd, either way). As far as cutting the frame, I am with Zoomin. If it is done properly it will bring more money that a LWB truck in the same condition. Frame swaps are very common too. It would not concern me if the truck I was buying was in the same state (no DMV inspection) I have never had a buyer look at the frame VIN, only at the cab plate and SPID. Most people do not even know where to look for the frame VIN.

As far as a value on your truck, my opinion doesn't matter because actual numbers will vary by region.

I have bought/sold several trucks, and the first question out of EVERY SINGLE buyer's mouth when they called was "Is it a short bed?"
