Sooooo Close! I'm almost done with the '72

Soooooo Close now. Lastnight we painted the rest of the small peices, Hood and Tailgate. The only thing left to paint is the bed which should go smoothly since its all big panels. Painting the small stuff is kind of a pain, so many angles to shoot at.

Today its rainin' like a sob so there's no bodywork getting done to the bed, which means... Assembly! Now im getting into the part I love, mechanical. I'll have pics later tonight showing the doors, fenders, grill and bumper assembled. I should have it running and done by tonight this way when I come back down AGAIN next weekend we can shoot the bed, bolt it on and I drive home. WOOOHOOOO!!!!!

Doors and Fenders on

Dont worry, a new master cylinder is on the way! lol

It was the blue/white one I bought late last year.
I started on it - March 22, 2003
I worked non stop for 2 weeks but didnt finish it so now im driving back to Oklahoma City each weekend to get it finished.

Dang thing basicly turned into a Frame-off Restoration done in less than a month. Of course I didnt detail the frame because its a daily driver

We are planning on getting the bed done next weekend!

Ole Dad and I are really enjoying this project

I built the engine last year for the '71 then put it and the new transmission w/1-peice drive shaft in the '72 back in Febuary.
Everything that bolts on to the body is either new or repainted/refurbished. Most everything in the interior is new.

I haven't run this one in the 1/4 yet but I estimate mid 13's once I install the posi. Right now its a 1 wheel wonder at stoplights LOL

Nice job Garrett! Those pics bring back some memories for me. Looks like you'll have it ready to drive to the show here on June 22nd (hint, hint). I'm like Randy, can't wait to see the end product. Cya, LB.

I can hardly believe you made that much progress in a month or less!! That's getting with it!!!!! You still have the gold one that's pictured in your avatar? I wish you had the red/white one finished so that I could drool over it Tuesday.

I wish I had it here too lol. I have'nt driven it since march and its killing me. I do still have the other one too. Its going under the knife as soon as I get this one done. It won't be a daily driver though... Mainly Strip and some shows.

If we get time I'll take you over to the shop and grab a few parts out of the back of the '71.

Piston,
That is ONE SWEET truck! What brand paint are you using? Im going to get started on my loatest 72 4x4 as I just cant stand to see pictures of the 72 3/4 4x4 Cheyenne I sold a few years back that I had owned since day 1. I have been kikk'n myself ever since I watched the guy that flew 1/2 way across the country to buy it and drive it back home. I miss my Cheyenne and your truck is making me want to do my latest 72 into a Cheyenne "clone as it has all the right stuff and it wont take much to make that "perfect" replacement truck for the 72 I was dumb enough to let go... Keep us updated with pictures as you have done a fantastic job so far!
Phil

Phillip, Thanks for the compliments

The paint is all PPG (ouch on a 2 tone) lol.
I thought about changing the labels and making it a Cheyenne but I didnt fill the holes in time and we had to finish the panels (its a Custom/10 Deluxe).

It has 245/65R15 on the front and 295/50R15 on the rear.
8" rims on front and 10" on rear. Seems to fit very nice.

I never drove it before the new springs
Good shocks is the key though. new springs or old springs on a weak set of shocks drives like the titanic!! Get good heavy duty shocks..

The springs came from a board member here. He gave them to me... FREE I love this board! lol
