rear wheel studs
Hey guys!
I was driving my 72 SB and my wheel fell off on the left rear. I got the wheel back on and recovered 3 of the five studs. I examined the studs and noticed damage from where the wheel had fallen off. How do I replace the studs on the rear axle? Do I have to remove the axle and if so how? Can I bang them out with a hammer or will the studs have to be cut? Thanks for your help.

Ypu can pull the brake drum off and hit them back into the brake area in most cases.
When you go to reinstall them they make a little 10 dollar tool that allows you to pull the stud through without undo strain onto the stud of the axle flange. You really need to asses why you lost them in the 1st place - kinda scary

Thanks. I will give that a try. I think the wheel came off because the lugs worked themselves loose. I replaced the rear brakes about three months ago and I had a lot of trouble with the brakes fitting inside the new drum. I probably didn't tighten the lugs fully. I checked the other side and I had one missing lug and the other four were loose.

Sounds like you didn't get the drums fully seated and then mounted the rim/tire. So they were prolly never "tight" to begin with.

if you've been ridin on a loose wheel for any lenghth of time chances are you also trashed the wheel and it should b replaced also

Thanks for all the helpful information guys! Can someone tell me where to find the stud installation tool? I bought a tool but it was for broken screw in type studs(engine block) I think. Thanks again for all your help.

to pull all the way in you need 1 or 2 washers on the stud most times// plus if you put the studs in the freezer overnite it makes it a bit easier to do

If you have aftermarket rims sometimes the original studs are too short. Something to check.Longer studs are readily available at parts stores.
