turb0 350 kick down cable question

I have a new kick down cable but do not see how i can get the old spring off....see picture - I am supposed to put the spring on then new cable...right

If I remember correctly, you pop up the tab like you're going to do the adjustment and the adjuster section will come off the front allowing the spring to slide off. Do the same thing to install on the new unit.

I think I would send it back and buy one that has the spring already installed, Like Lokar. At least call and ask.

A buddy of mine, who worked on transmissions for years, told me that the spring really serves no purpose, so they now make them this way. This is a GM replacement part....

I second that, it just helps in adjusting it a little, but isn't really needed.
