Hi, regular fan vs. electric?

Hi ya'll! I finally bought a radiator cause I wanted one and to check clearances. I have this regular fan with a fan clutch out of a '72 Impala. The clutch isn't any good and I know I can get the clutch, but it is kind of heavy.
But is electric the way to go? It'll be a while before I actually need one, but just shopping. If I went electric, I'd like a shroud with it as I will be running ac. But what do you have?

I would go with an electric fan over the clutch fan, as you would gain about 5-10 extra horses. and It would give you a cleaner look under the hood, if that is what you are looking for.

my opion is go with the manual fan, less to worry with, mine runs pretty close to normal with my ac on in the hottest part of the summer an cruisin slow, but thats my 2 cents worth

nothing wrong with the clutch fan set up you have
with the ac i'd think a shroud would be important to pull air over the condenser.
i chose an electric fan more for aesthetics and to make my ac work a little better.
if you stay with the clutch fan this is what a factory v8 shroud looks like (minus the patina)

i built a shroud as well, but not because of it cooled it off, did it for a just in case deal, but i had my ac for a year before the shroud an it never ran hot

OK~ I do like the simplicity of a regular fan/fan clutch. But I do like the clean look too of the electric. If I were to find a nice shroud, perhaps the regular fan would look presentable. Thanks ya'll~ I appreciate the advice and opinions! ; )

If you want an electric fan try this company.. www.coolingcomponentsinc.us.com they have a shroud built on and move a lot of air..

The original shroud looks like a piece of a 55 gal. Drum. I have a stock fan, shroud and radiator and it works with no issues. A lot of depends on the look of your engine bay. If the engine is updated and not stock appearing I would say go electric. If it has old style vavle covers intake, etc. Then dont.
Alot of guys are using jeep fans. Do a search on here maybe someone has one in a TF.

I am putting a 16" Zirgo electric fan in a stock shroud so it will take advantage of the shroud and hide the fan (even though it is chrome)

Your fan should be more than enough with a shroud so it would simply be a budget or personal choice. For me, I plan on a future remote start so I can cool the cab before getting in (Phoenix, AZ - nuf said).

What you have looks good, I would be hard pressed to change it. Good luck!

Edit: One other thing to consider is the electric fan relieves the stress on the water pump. Not a huge deal on an inexpensive stocker, but polished aluminum ones get spendy fast.

Just checked out their stuff. Looks pretty good. I will definitely be looking into their stuff for my truck and my car.

If you want a electric fan on the cheap that moves a heck of a lot of air go to the junkyard and get a fan out of a 3.8 3.8L V6 Taurus fan also found in late 80's wagons and sedans it pulls an estimated 2000cfm.

I seen this youtube video that Volvo's have the same fan of very similar fan.

If you go with an electric fan, how do you wire/trigger it? Do the modern aftermarket harnesses have a provision for this?

this is a spal 16'' fan with shroud from us radiator



i welded a ss 3/8 half coupling into a piece of ss exhaust pipe for the fan temp sensor
mounted it in the lower radiator hose

The 16" electric fan from a early 90s Volvo SW is almost a ferfect fit for the stock 6-cyl. radiator.
