Question 1988 Blazer

What transfer cases were used in the 1988 Blazers with the th700r4 transmissions?

If you were looking for #'s I can't tell you. I do know some had the awd case, but I believe those were in the olds bravada, and the Sy , and Ty turbo charged versions of the S15 and Jimmy.

I love this site but for more technical info, you might check over on s10forum.com seeing this section of the site doesn't get alot of traffic.

No I'm not talking about the full-size Blazers, but I did look and seen it is a np241 are these any good?

OOps didn't realize this was in the s10 section, don't know how I got there. The np241 is a pretty good transfer case, it's no np205, but it is based of the np208 and as a result its shift on the fly. A buddy of mine has one in his 89 full-size, and it works great.

Although, now that I think about it. You sure it was a np241 or was it a 231? I don't think the 241 was available in the S-series, too big I think. The 231 isn't a bad t-case, but it's good for an s-series or smaller. Wouldn't wanna put them in anything bigger.

Depends what you're using it for? The 241 has electronic controls, the 208 is strictly mechanical. I would go with the 208 myself, it's more robust.

I'm pretty positive it is a np241, but I will check again. But if indeed it is a np241 is it worth keeping around as a backup or anything?

It's just sitting in the garage collecting dust, and if it was stronger than the np208 I would look into swapping it but if its about the same I wont, but I will keep it around just in case or a future project or something.

Just make sure that what ever it is you want to put it in, that they are similar in style. Meaning they drop on the same side (drivers or passenger) and the transmission is the same, and that they are both manual or electronic shift. If it's for your 85 k10 then the S10 transfer case won't work. The K10 is passenger side t-case and s10's are drive side t-cases.
