It's a sickness i swear....

Drove this 80 miles home today.... broke down for a bit... alternator died.... luckily i was close enough to have a friend bring me a battery to get me home.

Alot of the sheetmetal work has already been done... clean on the inside... hood could use some smoothing out a bit.

I saw that on CL (I believe that's where I saw it). I had big dreams, but no cash. Then I remembered I didn't need another project. Glad you got it.

Saw it, said some rude words, then just grinned.

Good looking from here.

Yeah found it on CL. I was able to knock him down a bit on price. I have always wanted a chevy 60-66 wrecker. I have a ford wrecker here at the house that also has the Holmes 440 set up. Plans were to find a c-30 and convert. This saved a ton of work and now I have spare parts. Both wreckers are fully functional. I also really didn't need another project but couldn't pass it up at the same time. I brought it home last night so I couldn't get pics. Those are the pics from CL. Looks just as good in person. Only thing that the pics didn't show were the dings in the hood.

Re: 61 'Mater

The PO has a website with pictures of the build process... I took a few of the truck when he got it (with permission of course)...

Re: 61 'Mater

I dig it.
What model is it? Apache 20, 40, ??

But... what can you do with an old wrecker?
I'm looking at picking up a '61 Apache 40 stake bed this summer, but I'll actually be able to use it to haul parts to the swap meet, and building supplies when I move next year. It's not terribly practical, but I can see a use for one. I can't think of what I'd do with a vintage wrecker, other than rent it out to movies.

I maybe plan in the future to haul an old ford behind it

However taking it to a small car show last night it did not get as much attention from the older folks and those with pristine rides, however it did light up the kid's faces I was watching a dad and his kid walk around to all the Chevelles etc and the kid didnt seem all too excited to be there but he ran to the old wrecker with a huge smile. That made it worth it right there to me. I like to be different.

If I need to haul something, I have many other cars/trucks to do that with that would get alot better gas mileage than an older truck.

Apache C-30 btw

Re: 61 'Mater

That's a nice tow truck

That's something I wouldn't mind having.......that would make it so much easier to drag home more projects and parts trucks
