Reverse lights with 700r4 trans and floor shifter

So I've looked around and haven't been able to find an answer to my specific question.. and if there is one, please point me in the right direction..

I have a 67 c10 that had the motor and trans swapped to a 350/700r4. The reverse lights didn't work when i got it. I was originally a column shift but was set up to have it on the floor, which I would like to keep. When I rewired the thing last winter I didn't hook up the neutral safety switch/reverse light switch, because it wasnt there. there's just a jumper in the plug.

So what would my options be in getting these lights to work when I put it in reverse? The only thing I can think of is to get a new shifter with the switch built in and just wire it up to the plug.

Please help! I have to get this thing inspected when I transfer everything over to register it in Maryland.

You haven't said what model of shifter you are using.

I'm honestly not sure.. I don't see any identifying marks. I'll take another look tonight though. It's a simple T shifter with the lever coming through the body and a threaded rod attached to the trans. It was like that when I got the truck..Sorry I'm still kind of new to transmission and engine work..

Re: Reverse lights with 700r4 trans and floor shifter

that looks like the old ford mustang type of shifters that was used for 20 or 30 years

i'd go with a quality lokar shifter as they have easy mounts for NSS and backup lights too

X2. I used a Lokar Nostalgia shifter in my '69 C20. I love it.

Re: Reverse lights with 700r4 trans and floor shifter

Either way I need both. Will a Lokar shifter take care of all of it?

If you just buy the shifter.....It will only have a NSS.
You will need this along with the shifter for the back-up lamps, http://www.lokar.com/downloads/pdf-i...htNSSwitch.pdf
