Re: converting to bbc question

I did a big block swap in a 69 4wd in 1987. I didn't need different stands, I just bolted it up to the original crossmember. The bbc stands that you bought, must be from a 2wd, which are different than the 4wd. The reason that you need different stands on a 2wd with a bbc is because the bbc exhaust manifolds won't clear a 2wd stand from a small block truck.
I used stock exhaust manifolds and if I remember correctly, some of them didn't fit and some did. I have no idea what the manifolds came off of that I used, but if I had to guess, I would say a car and not a truck. I have no idea which model car though.
The biggest problem that I ran into was the clutch linkage. On a 4wd, the clutch ball threads into the front hole on the block. The stock manifolds only allowed using the rear hole on the block. At the time, I had a 68 4wd GMC parts truck, the engine was missing, but it had V6 emblems on it. I noticed that the clutch linkage was set up to use the rear hole for the ball, so I used the clutch linkage off that truck, which required me to put a new hole in the firewall for the clutch rod to go through.
If you have any other questions, I can try and answer them for you. This is just what comes to mind right now.

Re: converting to bbc question

Hit me up for pics if you need them. I put a bbc in my 72 k20 a long time ago but I still have it and getting it ready for my kid to drive. I don't remember the details but it wasn't that easy but not that hard to put the bbc in. Time flies.
