I have door holes so what do I do to clean and sound goooooood?

Hi guys. I have a 70 that I have owned for 30 years or so. When I bought it, there were 5¼" speakers in the bottoms of each door. Later dummy me cut them just a bit more to install 6" speakers in the holes.

Now I want to make the truck look close to stock. So here are a few questions if I may.

Are there any good sounding speakers for the 6" holes? What is the best way to install to keep them clean and undamaged from the elements? What is the best way to dampen them?

I have considered making fiberglass kick panel enclosures for 4" and adding tweets I have as well. If I do this I'll place 8" under the seat kina like a mid base. Any suggestions there?

I typically only listen to talk radio but once in a while I turn on the blues.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Take a look in my build. I built some lower door cards from fiber board, and used them to mount the 6x9's in my lower doors. I too had holes from the p.o, and this was the most elegant solution I could think of. The combination of board, leather, and being screwed into the door, which is then backed with peen n stick. Along with the rest of my system, it looks pretty clean, works great....and it DOESN'T RATTLE.

Thanks. I ordered a carpet kit for the truck. I had bottom of the door panels made while they were doing the carpet, just in case. I was wondering more of the technical side of things.

WHICH speakers to use in the doors or should I use door speakers? That kind of thing.

Cool Looking truck. Your truck and mine have so much in common. Yours is a Chevy with 4 wheels and so is mine. I guess it stops there. Nice customizing on yours....

Thanks for the reply post.

In a 6" hole, I would downsize the hole to run the 5-1/4, which then gives you the world of options for component setups. OR step the hole up to run a 6.5", which again opens up a huge list of speakers. Always run an amp, the HU won't deliver the clarity or power that you would really want. Everything past that is brand preference.

No way to keep them really clean, but you can cut a "mounting cup" in half, and use it as a weather shield if your doors let water in (mine do).

Thanks Br3w.... Cutting the cup is a great idea maybe with polys or something there to help with the moisture.

Another idea, on the inside of the door, get a thin piece of sheetmetal and bend it into an L an epoxy it to the inside above the speaker to act like a rain deflector.

I done some that way years ago and it worked. But I screwed mine to the door.
