1970 Outer Tie Rod End

I am replacing the outer tie rod end passenger side on my 70 C10. This truck does have front disk brakes. I purchased the a Moog outer tie rod for it. Whenever I got the old one off it does not match the new one. The OD on the old one is larger than the new one. We went back to the parts store and looked at all tie rod ends thru 1987 and nothing matched. Thread on the old one is 1/2 20. Any ideas?

63-70 are one size, 71/72 are yet another size and 73-87 are yet another size. If yours are larger than your 70's then I would suspect you have a 73-87 spindle on there, just because 71/72 aren't prevalent and I would think you would know it. 73-87 tie rods have the largest threaded end.

63-70 OUTER tie rods are 5/8" LH thread.

71-72 OUTER tie rods are 11/16" RH thread.
73-87 OUTER tie rods are 11/16" RH thread.

Someone has changed parts in your front end.
Pics would help.
The tie rod has to match the spindle year.

I figured the previous owner used 73-87 parts for the conversion. But the length of the tie rod and size of the thread match none of these. I bought everything for a 70 outer, inner and sleeve to see if this will work.

1970 outer, inner and sleeve will work with a 63-70 center link and drum brake spindle.
The only way they will work with a disc brake spindle is if someone used aftermarket 63-70 disc brake conversion spindles.

You have to figure out what year spindle is on your truck!

Bottom tie rod is the one off the truck. The new tie rod is for a 70.

Is it possible that it's from a larger truck, 3/4 or 1 ton? I don't know but if the OP knows it's a 73-87 conversion then maybe it's a possibility?

Sorry, I misread your other post. Thought you said you figured out, not just figured. Pictures will be the only way to tell what crossmember and spindle you have.

The one off your truck is either a 71-72 tie rod or a 73-87 tie rod.
Inners, outers, sleeve, centerlink, and spindles all have to match.

I would need the length from the thread end to the center of the stud, usually the grease fitting is in the center, thread size, the small diameter of the taper and the large diameter of the taper.

There's only one 1/2-ton outer tie rod that I know of.

Here are the measurements I came up with using a mic.
Top of Taper-0.6310
Bottom of Taper-0.509
The threads mic at .65
Length to center of stud 6 1/4

Are the taper measurements on the taper? not on the threads or the straight part at the bottom 509 and 631 don't match to anything that's 6.25 long or +/- .50"

Threads are 5/8

I did find a ES678 6.62 long, 5/8-18 with 0.516 top 0.627 bottom taper for a 63-64 C10 it has a right hand thread and its an inner.

RS323L and RS323R are the outers but only 4" long with the same taper and threads. all for 63-64 possibly the tie-rods are flipped end for end?

I think the previous owner just used what he could find and did not use the correct parts.
