installing 292 in place of 454

I have aquired a k30 cab and chassis. I am planning on installing a running 292. The reason for this configuration is that I used to drive a Schoool Bus with a 292 and a sm465. Slang (It would pull the Black off of asphalt). I know it is not going to be very powerful but it will pull. The K30 I have originally came with the 454, sm465,np205 transfer case. I am planning on using this to pull a trailer for personal hauling and a Service/Bugout type setup.

Questions are, excelerator linkeage, power steering/Hydro boost pump brackets and if I desire at a later point to install A/C. Has anyone got any insight on this? Thanks in advance for any input.

Good choice with the 292. One of my favorite engines. Had one in a '64 C-30 that would pass 350's up a steep hill.

I switched a truck from a V-8 to a 6 once and had to change a suprising amount of little things, but let us know what year truck you are working on.

Re: installing 292 in place of 454

Throttle cable is usually longer as the carb is further forward.
Assuming your K30 is a square body, you wil need the frame side engine mounts.
Most of the 292 driven accessory brackets are unique to the 292 as the block is higher than than the other inlines, so anything mounting to the head is positioned dfferently. This is certainly true for the AC and I suspect PS too (can't remeber offhand but I think the upper bracket goes to the head). I know someone makes a bracket set that accepts later Sandeen style compressors. Hydroboost uses same PS pump with different resevoir and plumbing, watch the return port orientation. None of the later 'integral head' 250 stuff will fit.

Re: installing 292 in place of 454

Hey guys, sorry i'm still learning the site, My truck is a 1982 k30 cab and frame, came with a 454 originally . When I obtained the truck it did not have a engine to begin with. I was trying to build a simuliar truck from multiple trucks and frames that I have collected. In that collection I was able to horse trade a 292. I haven't done any research on the Engine as of yet. I was told that it was a running engine. It came out of a 66 c-10, however i am pretty sure someone had installed it in there. I am not sure which year the engine is. It is in the corner of my shop. I ran across the truck and could not pass the cost up.
