SM465 Specs for 4x4 Application

I'm looking for an SM465 four speed manual tranny to replave my TH350 auto in front of my NP205 transfer case. There are a few variants out there and I want to make sure I get the right one. Am I looking for the long or short output shaft version to work with the adapter I need between the SM465 and NP205. This is for a 72 K5 Blazer, so I am talking about the adapter that was used for this era truck (the length of the SM465 + adapter = length of TH350). Thanks.

You can keep the existing 205 for the 465. You can either swap out the input gear to the 10 spline or get a combination coupler (27 to 10 spline) from advance adapters. For the 465 you will need to locate a 4x trans with the 10 spline output and the adapter can be had either used (from a wrecking yard or other source) or new, brand new being from AA also

Are you going to use the cast iron bell housing? The bottom two bolt holes on the transmission are threaded and are accessible from inside the bell housing. The 73 up trucks are drilled and the bolts thread into the bell housing. I will attach a picture I found. If you could possibly find a donor truck that had everything that would be the way to go.

bluek5 -

Thank you for that bit of information. That is exactly the type of knowledge that will help me put together the right pieces.

Smart money has you buying the trans/tcase as a pullout together. No searching and paying extra for bolts, adapters, bellhousing, shifter, etc.

Don't forget to add clutch pedal/bell crank and linkages to that list as well.
