big block

I have a old 68 chevy 16ft flatbed dump truck got a good deal on it, ,open the hood it has a big block in it,did they come out with big blocks,looks like a 396 or maybe a 427 it has chrome valve covers,how do I tell what size engine

Yes they came with big blocks, 427 or more commonly 366 (short stroke )... There are clues as to what Should be in there, but that may or may not be what is actually there. The truck motors are "tall deck". ( extra rings on thepistons for oil control) meaning they are wider across the I take manifold...

Post the Engine Code on the Front Pad and we should be able to tell you what you have. If it is original and has Chrome Valve Covers, I would say that someone put them on.
