vinyl flooring/carpet - sound deadening/heat sheild options?

hey all,

Another Q from me. Currently, my 76 has crappy, torn, disgusting carpet installed. I am going to rip it out and I was thinking of going with vinyl as it will be easier to clean and maintain. I will have to take out all the original bitumen as it's knackered and broken.

Having a look at options available most of the carpets have extra thick backing as an option but the vinyl doesn't. So what are you guys putting under the vinyl?

I am looking to keep it cheapish so I am thinking of peal and seal but is that enough? Should I look for an additional top layer?

On the cheap.... Frost King Duct insulation. It is aluminum with sticky back foam.

I've used this stuff for years and works pretty good.

It can be had for around $18 a roll & can be bought at Home Depot or Lowes.

I've used something similar in my doors and it does work well and is much cheaper than "deadening material"

As far as vinyl, I got my flooring from www.73-87chevytrucks.com (CaptKaos - member) and it is VERY heavy duty and I am happy with it. Takes a little work to get it cut and in, but worth the time.

I've had really good luck with some knock off bran sound deadening from amazon. took a chance on it on the first truck 2 summers back, liked it so much we used it under the rubber floor in our 79 C30. definitely helps a lot

When I did my interior, in first put FatMat down, even on the back wall. Then the original tar Mat. Next I put a foil backed insulation, from Home Depot. It comes in various sizes.

Lastly the carpet went down, which also had jute on the back.
The cardboard tool tray, I installed a thick speaker/amp carpet.

You can check my build thread out and see the finished interior. The link is at the bottom, on my signature. It shows a few more pics on the process of the sound deadening.

Fatmat is less expensive. Just put 2 layers to make it more effective.
