Horn question?

First off my horn does work but when I push on my horn button nothing happens. So I took off horn button and touched the metal cup and steering wheel bolt with a screwdriver it works. How would I fix this? Thanks for any help!!

Re: Horn question?

I usually just clean the metal "spring" washer with some steel wool and it works again. It's the far left part in the picture of item 13.

Re: Horn question?

I did do that. I’m just having a heck of a time with this horn. It looks like something so simple can aggravate me. It’s the last thing I need to fix on my truck. I should say hopefully it’s my last thing to fix. Lol

Re: Horn question?

Lol I know. I've fought them several times. You may also need to bend that a little so it's a bit more concave or "dish" shaped if that makes sense. The actual contact button that slides into the hole in the wheel can get sticky as well.

Re: Horn question?

Can someone help me out here. Below are the pictures of what i got. My horn wasn’t working after i took the steering wheel off awhile ago to repaint etc. i think i forgot the order i took the horn stuff off. I searched and came across this thread and the diagram of parts listed above. But im not sure where the little Horn spring button goes into the diagram.

Its a 62 C10.

I got the pieces back together after i took another look at it. However, the most i get out of the horn is a quick blurp. Even when touching a screwdriver to the steering column and the horn plate. Is it a wiring issue or a bad horn unit? Any suggestions on how to find out. I’m by no means a mechanic so please be descriptive.

Thanks

Re: Horn question?

I’m in the exact same situation! Don’t know what’s happening the darn thing will either honk or stays on. I ordered all new parts for under horn button and same problem. Good luck with yours. Someone on here always has a good idea on troubleshooting.

That’s what I hoping for. I don’t want to have to replace everything for no reason. Good luck to you!
