72 c10 long bed newbie restoration project

Hello everyone. Finally going to try and get started restoring my grandfather's truck. It's been sitting in a barn for about 10 years and I'm guessing I have alot of work ahead of me.

Hoping to get some advised on what to do and where to even start. Right now it has a steel flatbed on it I want to take off and sell. I'm going to take the cab and bed off. Then I plan on having the frame sandblasted. Once that's done I'll figure out what to do next lol.

Is there a good guide on what to do, start to finish?

Welcome, aboard. Nice clean looking project, getting close to finishing a 71 long bed myself. Plenty of help and knowledge here, depending on your wallet and availability to sand blaster, you may want to consider doing it yourself. I rolled the cab on it's back, plywood across frame and did all the work needed up front and cleaned and painted cab bottom and roof inside and out.... Pick a small segment and complete that, move on to the next part as money is a available, nice to save family treasures.

Yes indeed, This is the place. Start off by pulling up highly rated builds and read them from the beginning. After that you'll see the patterns that tend to work and the ones that don't. I would suggest you give it a good long think and realize ahead of time what your abilities are and what your budget can be. Probably most of the builds start off with a few repairs and then end up in pieces for years. I'm a prime example.

Glad you got it, and can get it going again, however you wish to...
I like stuff a lot more towards the stock side, however have seen many highly modified pickups that are awesome!!!

I wonder if the glove box decal is still intact? it will tell you what options it came with

I like my 67 and 68, but 71's and 72's come with factory disc brakes, no need to up date the brakes, just make needed repairs!!!

I would in general go in this order:
Clean and paint frame
Suspension and brake work
Drivetrain
Metal work
Paint
Interior/glass/trim

I did mine horribly different and it added a ton of labor but I don't have a garage. For example, I have had my front clip and bed on and off several times unnecessarily.

Of course, I am not done with that soapbox yet...don't drop your truck to the ground if you plan to put 25K miles plus per year on it. There, pre-warned.
