70 K10 and front disk brakes - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've been told that the best way to add power disks to my 70 K10 is to put in a complete axle from a 73 and up square body. Can anyone give me some pointers on what axle and years to look for? My truck originally had manual drums and was converted to power drums.

A Dana 44. You might be able to find one with the right gear ratio.

I assume you have a Dana 44 closed knuckle front axle assembly. You can convert what you have over to disk brakes which in my opinion is less work than changing out the front axle assembly. You can order from this company a bolt on kit to convert your drum brakes over too disks. I just recently did mine with one of their kits and it worked well. https://therammaninc.com

Yes sir, that the one year ‘70 only open knuckle drum brake dana 44 axle. You can convert it to disks here’s a decent post from a thread concerning this from a while back. I’ll add the post and the thread both.

73 to about 81 ish will have a a dana 44 not sure which year in the 80s they switched to a 10 bolt front diff
It should bolt right in with exception of shock mount locations
Good chance to find one the same ratio
