Seat Upholstery

Ok, Since he seems to be focusing on the inside of the truck right now, I was thinking of getting him new seat upholstery and trying it ourselves. Probably a tall order since I have no experience with it, but what the heck, huh?

Brothers has everything on backorder, and to be honest, I have not been that impressed lately with them. LMC has kits, but he already bought the carpet and padding, so I don't need that.

Any suggestions where I can find a decent quality seat cover? He may end up changing things around at some point, so I don't want to break the bank, so to speak. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Have a great day all, and thanks for all the help.

Re: Seat Upholstery

I'd say it depends on what you're looking to do. On my dad's old Bronco, we just bought some vinyl, hog clips, and hog clip pliers and recovered the seats ourselves, but that was just an old hunting truck. If you want a stock-ish looking cover, you may be SOL because lately everyone is out of stock, but you may get lucky. I may end up going the vinyl or another fabric route on my bench seat because it's cheap and like you said for your son's truck, it doesn't have to be permanent.

Re: Seat Upholstery

Well, I got my houndstooth/vinyl seat cover from Brothers and was super happy with the quality and fit. No puckers, seams in the right place, etc. Wish I could remember who makes the covers for Brothers...

Good luck.

Unfortunately they are out of just about all colors. But I may keep looking and see if they are getting anything in the near future.

I waited a while. After a month, I called and Brothers sort of forgot about the order...but, to their credit, they called the producer and got my order included in his next batch. It then showed up in about a week.

So, these things are produced to order in batches. Order it and then check via phone regularly. They will know the orders in each batch and have an ETA.

Re: Seat Upholstery

It's not bad at all, you can recover a seat and it is super satisfying. It gets a little trickier if you have broken springs and worn out or missing foam but there are plenty of videos and resources to learn. You don't really need specialty tools to install an OE replacement cover either.

I am still waiting on an order from Feb !st. They are probably tired of me asking about them.

Re: Seat Upholstery

My .02 Cents

I purchased the covers from a company called Lseat and installed them myself. If the year and model are not listed on their website, they can produce duplicates off of your old ones. The quality is top notch and the price for leather is very reasonable. They can be a bit difficult to contact but in my experience they were legit and reliable. They can custom embroider anything you want on the covers as well.

Re: Seat Upholstery

I received an Email today stating the supplier finally got the material to make the covers and they should ship by the end of the month.

I just got mine from USA1. It took a couple months, but looks great. I will be installing soon. But I wouldn't skimp on a nice cover.

I finally got my covers on. A friend with a '70 short bed put them together for me and they turned out great. I also ordered some carpet that I thought was darker but it matches the seats nicely.

Re: Seat Upholstery

Some have the covers made locally like I did.
However, not every town has a talented upholster.
Here is a picture of mine. They were $500 each.
Including the covers/material and labor.
The material started out as a flat sheet of vinyl.
The quality of the vinyl is outstanding. I expect it will last a long time.
The wait was till he could get to it. About a month.
