Question CUCV wheels on a K20?

Everyone raves about using 6 lug 15x8 CUCV steelies on K10’s and K5 Blazers to run wider tires. Anybody using 16x8.5 CUCV steelies on an 8 lug K20? They seem to be more plentiful and a whole lot cheaper than their 6 lug cousins.

Re: CUCV wheels on a K20?

I've seen it done. Not sure what was required, if anything. The are inset, backspace wise, compared to what is normally used. They also have run-flat thingies inside that I believe can be a PIA. I also "think" guys remove those. All hear-say from some time ago with no personal experience. Cool idea for sure. Beasty looking things they are!

EDIT: Oh wait, you said CUCV, not HUMVEE. K30 CUCV wheels are just factory 8-luggers. Eezee peezee. They are the same width as stock, though.

Here are HUMVEE wheels on a CUCV

Re: CUCV wheels on a K20?

You’re not out of the loop, the seller is He just sent me pics and I can tell they are regular 6” wide or so. He claims they are stamped 16x8.5 but I doubt they are If these wheels were 8.5” wide they would be snatched up and scarce like the 6 luggers.

I bought a set of 5 tires for my 72 burb from a hummer. We unbolted the 2 piece wheels and found 3 of the 37x16.5 tires had run flats in them. Tire shop said to chain them to a tree and to your truck and hope for the best... I thought outside the box and got a porta-power and stretched the run flats inside the tire and was able to work them out. It was not fun.

Glad you cleared this up. I was hoping there was an easy source for 16 x 8.5 wheels.

That tire shop never had any 63 or 91 series maintenance kids working there I see. Get a good CGU-1B and a tire iron and those radial rubber inserts are super fun to change. Been there, done that...

Also people looking at CUCV rims, be advised the Blazers were 6 Bolt and the trucks were 8. CUCV's were being phased out for Active Duty in the early 90's. I got to drive them on the Autobahn and it was fun. When I left that unit most all were replaced by HMMWV's except the contact trucks. Took a while for the Army to get replacements on that model.
