61-disc bake conversion help

I would like to convert my 61 to disc brakes on the front but keep it six lug and stock height spindles. Want to stay with the torsion bar suspension as well.

Re: 61-disc bake conversion help

Since you would prefer to stay with the torsion bar setup, you will have to get aftermarket, stock height spindles that are made to work with your factory ball joints and tie rod ends or get a kit that is designed to work with the factory, drum brake spindle.

I have been pleased with the Western Chassis spindles that came in my disc kit from Performance Online. I kept my truck stock height and 6 lug.
If you go the aftermarket spindle route, I would definitely recommend purchasing a quality spindle as you don't want it breaking while driving!

Re: 61-disc bake conversion help

I converted my '60 several years ago to power discs and 6 lug rotors with Western Chassis spindles as well. I ended up switching over to 5-lug rotors a few year later for wheel choice.

I converted my 62 a few years back with the CCP kit with six lug drop spindles. I am still running torsion bars and manual transmission. This kit is easy to install with minor fabrication to the clutch line. I have been real happy with the kit. Hope this helps.

John,
I am considering this change as well. You mentioned you modified your clutch linkage. How did you solved the hydraulic clutch issue?

Check out Captainfab on this forum, he has a kit that comes with an adapter plate, hardware and a slave cylinder. His post has a bunch of great photos to show you

Re: 61-disc bake conversion help

I have started to look at all of his brackets and adapters. I have not read a bad post about his items. Looks like many go with the wellwood small slave cylinder. Just looking into what other modifications would have to be made.
Thanks,
Rob

Other than splitting the brake lines is about it.
