Re: I've caught the bug!! let me know if I am nuts!

1fast71,I honestly don`t even know where I got the picture from.I do know one thing...the same suspension on a shortbed wouldn`t look the same.
The complete ECE 4/6 drop to do it right will run you right about $800.This includes adjustable panhard bar to center the rear and shock relocatore to correct the angle of the shock closer to their intended geometry.

I don`t think it`s nuts to shorten a longbed. But,I`d never do it.It makes no sense,in my mind,to do all that work to end up with something that`s already made that way. While one guy`s doing all that work to cut, weld, and fill just to have comprimised sheetmetal and, maybe,a not too safe frame(it is illegal in many states),I`ll take a bed with no bondo or seems in it`s "stamped from a single sheet" bedsides and it`s "one piece from front to back" frame rails and be all those hours ahead towards other details that actually show on the finished product.I just don`t have that time to kill and I`m into bikes, too.Just not enough of me to spread too thin.

Re: I've caught the bug!! let me know if I am nuts!

I was in the same boat and finished my LWB because it was painted. Never liked it as much as I wanted to because I had always wanted a SWB. Guess what, now it's back in the garage and chopped to a SWB.

#1) it's yours build the way you want, the most difficult part is going backwards on a finished frame, if you can live with that go for it. #2) Special K picked a bad example, that truck is sweet for a LWB!

So,a good example is a bad example?A longbed can look hot!Nuff said. It`s two different looks.I love the compactness of the shorty. But,they can never look as sleek as a longbed,if that`s what you want. It`s like the difference between a 2-door sedan and a business coupe.Or,a`55 210 Post and a Belair.Long lines can offer more grace.Semis look cool with long frames. It doesn`t have to be either/or.We can do what we want.I have both and like both.Cut all you want.Like I said,I won`t.I`ll just "get" a shortbed.
Here`s another bad example :

I love the long bed, I have a 92 4x4 short wide, and when you are hauling 16' pieces of deck board, it makes for an interesting ride home.

I chopped my frame. It all went well. Take 12" out of the center, and 8" off the back!
