I don't know if this is the right place to put this out. But what's everyone using in their parts washer? Ya can't get varsol anymore and the bio-degradeable stuff you mix with water doesn't clean worth a crap. I didn't like it and didn't want to put down my sink after it got dirty either.

Has anyone tried kerosene? When it gets dirty you can mix it with the used oil and recycle it.

I've also heard people using diesel fuel, any thoughts on that?

I currently use diesel in mine. Years ago I used 1 part gunk to 4 parts kerosene. Glad you asked the question, maybe we'll find out something better!

I went with straight kerosene. So far I like it pretty good.
I had hoped to get more opinions on this.

You can buy safety solvent. get it from your local oil & chemical distributor

one of the better cleaners is a citrus cleaner its bio and cleans very well in cold water. you have to keep in mind that the body will absorb very well and it can't get rid of what we absorb eg: heavy metals a request of your doc will show this in a blood test. so spend a bit of cash and protect your self to enjoy that project later in life. work safe 463

I've been using Castrol Super Clean - I have NO complaints with how well it cleans, but maybe that's just me...

First, I went the parts store, and bought a 5 gallon bucket of "parts cleaner solvent" 45. bucks. I got to reading the "ingredients" it was mineral spirits. So! I went to Lowe's (6 bucks a gallon) and bought low odor Mineral spirits, Doesn't smell the garage up, or the house since my garage is attached. Seems to work good to me. And I believe you can burn that thru a kerosene heater as well.
Somebody speak up on that fact , just in case I happen to be wrong.

Hard to beat diesel fuel....or even gasoline...in a pinch!

Nothing beats petroleum based solvents!

super clean eats paint, also skin if you accidentally get it on you. my hands were all cracked and peeling the first time i used it. now i use gloves.

no parts washer for me(yet), but i use mineral spirits on really greasy motors, transmission, frames, and rearends. it loosens up the crud enough to where it practically melts off. then use one good clean coat with some rags to finish it off.

Diesel is what my father and I have been using, I was going to get solvent from the parts store but the price was outragous for a 5 gallon bucket.
